A Miniature piece is truly a delightful treasure!

I love to put a lot of fine detail into my small pieces.
The thin walled container has a delicate feel, almost weightless.

It is surprising how difficult it is to work in small scale, and how exhausted I feel when finished, even though the result will fit in the palm of my hand.

My miniature lidded containers are made using similar techniques as for
the larger vessels, but with smaller tools.
Often the details in these pieces are so small that I need to use a jeweler's magnifying headset in order to see what I'm working on.

A small container will have the inside finished to the same high polish as the outside, requiring more care in the hollowing. The lid is cut from the same piece of wood, or from a contrasting species, and the finial, foot and decorative inlay rings are fitted to the body of the container with tight-fitting joinery
such as that used in building furniture.

As with my larger vessels, my Miniatures have a Gemstone,
23K Gold Leaf, or a turned decoration inside the lid.
This hidden detail is our reward for taking the time and being "present"
as we explore a tiny, precious, enclosed space.

The overall feel, fit, and finish are reminiscent of fine jewelry:
A treasure in a small package!
